A lot of people prefer to store their money, jewellery, and other valuable items near them all the time. Unfortunately, sometimes, this isn’t the safest and smartest option to make. Keeping expensive and rare possessions in your home and letting others know about this is certainly a good way of luring robbers.

If you want to keep your valuable possessions in your home, you have to consider investing in a security safe. A security safe is a protected, lockable box used for properly securing valuable objects against theft and damage from fire, water, and other harsh elements.

Once you finally have a personal security safe installed, you must identify which valuables should be stored in it and how you should properly store them. In addition, according to safety and security experts, it is crucial to get an insurance policy for your home to specifically cover the valuable items you have in the safe as well.

Additional Storing Tips

Although a safe would make the perfect storage area for your treasured possessions, it would still work to your advantage if you follow some good storing tips. These tips include the following:

• Keep documents or paper items such as contracts, certificates, or stamp collections in sealed plastic bags. Ziploc bags can be used, or plastic bags that can be vacuum sealed (vacuum sealing is ideal for those paper valuables that can oxidise due to the presence of air). Experts usually recommend making digital copies of contracts, certificates, and other important documents, and storing them electronically. In addition, leave instructions on how people you trust can access them should something happen to you and you cannot personally get these stored valuables.

• Place or cover paintings or works of art that has to be preserved well to maintain quality with plastic wraps with cushion such as bubble wraps. This way, should they accidentally fall, there’ll be little to no damage to them. Scratches and scrapes can be minimized as well.

• Place jewellery in clear plastic containers with tight locks before storing them in the safe.

Experts also say that apart from proper storage, it’s also important to determine who, other than you, is allowed access to the security safe. You need to choose only a few to have access since it won’t be too secure if a lot of people know how to open it. Be very discriminating with who you choose as well.
